Stay Out of the Kithcen.

Golden Rule of Pickleball

The Golden Rule in pickleball is: "Stay out of the kitchen unless you absolutely have to be there."

This refers to the Non-Volley Zone (NVZ), also known as "the kitchen," which is the seven-foot area on both sides of the net. Players cannot volley (hit the ball out of the air) while standing in the kitchen or stepping on the kitchen line. This rule prevents players from standing too close to the net and smashing the ball, keeping the game fair and strategic.

This shot is legal as long as the ball lands within the boundaries of the opponent’s court. ATP shots usually happen when an opponent hits a wide shot, giving the player an angle to return the ball around the net rather than trying to hit it back over. It’s a high-level shot that requires precision and good court awareness!
